Plumbing Questions and Answers
Still unsure? Talk to a plumber
FAQ
Answers to common questions
- What happens after I contact Surfingwater Plumbing?
- We note the problem, your town and some details about your home, then connect you with an independent provider who serves your area. The provider contacts you, sets a time and inspects the problem. Before larger work, they give you a written price. You decide whether to go ahead.
- How soon can a plumber come out?
- It depends on the provider's schedule, the time of day and the weather. After a hard freeze or a big storm, providers get busy. Many can respond quickly to urgent problems. Ask when you reach out. Meanwhile, keep the water off, take photos and move valuables away from the leak.
- Which plumbing jobs can I do myself?
- Plunging a single drain, replacing a toilet flapper and cleaning a faucet aerator are fine for most people. Leave hidden leaks, water heaters, gas lines, sewer work and anything needing a permit to a provider. Unpermitted work can cause trouble at sale time.
- What should I photograph after a leak?
- The source of the leak, the water on the floor, stains on walls and ceilings, and any damaged belongings. Take wide shots and close-ups before cleanup, then a few after the repair.
- How do I compare two plumbing quotes?
- Check that both cover the same work, parts and permits. Look at warranty terms and what happens if more damage turns up. A low total that leaves things out is not a better deal.
- Will insurance cover my plumbing damage?
- It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage like a burst pipe, but not slow leaks or wear. Check your policy and talk to your insurer. Providers can often help document damage.
- Do plumbing repairs affect home inspections?
- They can. Inspectors look for water stains, soft floors, old galvanized pipe and sewer problems. Documented, permitted repairs help answer their questions.
- Do I have to hire the provider?
- No. There is no obligation. You can ask questions, compare quotes or wait. The provider runs their own business, and any agreement is between you and them. Surfingwater Plumbing does not charge you for the referral.
